Community Yoga for a Cause
Mondays (July through Labor Day)
11:00-Noon

This will be a donation based all levels yoga class with all proceeds going to an ALS organization called Team Gleason. Classes will be held in Town Center (stage or lawn depending upon the weather and whether people would like sun or shade). If it is cold or stormy class will be held at Santosha.

Over the past few summers we have offered community yoga classes on the lawn for a different benefit for something in our community each month. When I was thinking about what organization would make sense to support this summer, it seemed obvious that it would be best to support the Robin family anyway we could through our practice. Mark and Jackie have always been such great supporters of Santosha, coming to class regularly over the years as well as providing their team at the Moose with classes at Santosha ever since we opened our doors. In this way and so many other ways the Robins have been such an awesome part of our community. It has been really beautiful to see so much support and an outpouring of love towards Mark and Jackie and their family in their time of need. I am excited and honored to teach this weekly donation based class to give back to a cause they are behind. Team Gleason focuses on technical support for People with ALS (PALS) and their families. The Robin family along with many other families suffering from ALS have been supported through this great grassroots organization. So after speaking with them about the different organizations that helps to create awareness around this disease and support people through the process, it seemed like the natural choice.

These classes will begin July 3rd and go through September 4th. Hope to see you on the lawn!

The Yoga of Sound

Saturday, July 8th 9:00-11:00 am
Nada Yoga 101.

What is nada yoga and how can it help deepen any daily practice?

We will explore the subtleties of sound by starting with a listening meditation that then takes us on a journey through a toning exercise where we are able to feel the energy move through our body. This practice will help you establish a joyful home practice of chanting and singing as we experience the true connection between sound and creation.

Wednesday, July 19th 7:00-9:00 pm
Mantra Yoga

How do I use mantra as meditation? What if I already know a lot about mantras?

For those with an extensive mantra practice or those brand new to chanting, this workshop will teach you the precise resonance and pronunciation of the sanskrit letters to further deepen or begin a dedicated mantra yoga practice. Joanna will guide you through several different mantras that will help support you in transforming all areas of of your life, including mantras for abundance, relationships, health and changing the old, negative mental chatter. Change your mind, change your life! (Bring if a mala if you have one, if not, there will be beautiful malas from India for sale)

Saturday, July 29th 9:00-11:00 am
Sanskrit as the body of sound. Mantra Paru?a and the Chakras

Did you know that the 50 sanskrit characters correlate to the 50 petals of the chakras?

Come and learn that not only do the sounds of sanskrit reflect the chakras, but also represent the primary energies of creation, the 50 marma points in the body and more!

Explore this language of creation by learning the 5 mouth placements that will help you pronounce any sanskrit word in the future. Diving further into the study and practice of sanskrit will help you deepen your experience with mantra and yoga!

Investment: $20 per class or $50 for the series of 3

Joanna has been traveling and teaching yoga since 2003. First starting her yoga career here in Bozeman at Beyond Boundaries, she has since moved and help establish yoga communities on Kaua’i, Hawai’i and Bologna, Italy. Joanna has traveled to China and India to study and deepen her own personal practice of qi gong and yoga so that she can continue to expand her offerings for her students. Most recently, Joanna took part in the very first yoga teacher training based entirely on the transformational power of sound (including Sanskrit, mantra, Indian classical vocal meditation, and non-violent communication for everyday life). She is coming here to Montana to share her passion for this fundamental yoga practice that opens up the inner doorway to true and lasting freedom and bliss. Using the power of our own voice to access these inherent energies of the Universe, we will explore the creative language of sanskrit together and practice mantra yoga together to help establish a daily practice that can truly help transform your life on many levels.

108 Sun Salutations to Celebrate the Summer Solstice
Tuesday, June 20th at 9:00 am in the Town Center

This will be a collaborative effort between Yoga Stone and Santosha this year bringing together our entire yoga community. It will be held in Town Center Park near or on the stage. A yoga tradition is to do 108 sun salutations (Surya Namaskar A) to pay respects and surrender to the cycles of the universe, as we mark the end a season and the beginning of new phase at the Summer Solstice. As well as being an incredible mental and physical detox, celebrating this change together is a memorable experience that will leave your yoga practice changed. These salutations will enable you to appreciate your inner fire (agni), elevate your mental and physical capacity, and expand your own self expectations. As we move strongly and fluidly together, we will build and believe in our inner brilliance, while creating a favorable condition for meditation. Whether this number has any significance to you, or you just want a new mental and physical challenge, come and join us for a collective celebration of summer, yoga and our community. You will leave feeling strong, confident and liberated with a fresh summer glow. The event is free and open to everyone, with the option of a donation towards the BSCO (Big Sky Community Organization). We will start at 9am and go until we are finished- approximately an hour and a half.

Foam Rolling and Fascia Release Workshop
with Meg Lattanzio
Sunday, May 21st 2:00-4:30pm

Do you want to move better? Recover faster? Perform better and have less pain? Self-Myofascial Release is an extraordinary tool to help you achieve these results. Using foam rollers, lacrosse/tennis balls and gentle warm up poses, Meg guides you through the basics of deep tissue release. The benefits are astounding: increases blood flow, improves muscular range of motion, reduces muscle soreness, maintains normal functional muscular length and encourages movement of your lymph. Wear comfortable clothing and drink plenty of water prior. This workshop is suitable for anyone and everyone!

After attending Bikram Yoga training in 2001, Meg opened one of Montana’s first hot yoga studios. Since being director and owner, she has traveled extensively to Australia, Hawaiian Islands and the east coast as a guest teacher where she has facilitated in house teacher training seminars and led workshops. Meg has had the privilege to study and practice with Diane Ducharme, Craig Villani, Esak Garcia and Mary Jarvis. With classic hot yoga as her foundation, Meg is also very much inspired by Eric Schiffmann, Dharma Mittra and Tony Sanchez. When not teaching hot yoga, her class tends to be a fusion of all her teacher’s golden nuggets where she teaches with integrity, intention and intuition. Recently, Meg has been fired up about fascia release techniques. After 17 years of practicing yoga, Meg now almost always includes these techniques along side her personal time on the mat. When not guiding a class, she is spending time with family and scheming ways to return to the sun, sand and salt.

Creative Writing Circle led by Liz McRae
Wednesday, February 22nd at 6:00-7:30 p.m.

We all have a story to tell.

Everyone’s life is made up of a million small moments, memories and stories. Think about them- crazy Aunt Sally’s wedding toast, skinny-dipping in the ocean, riding a horse, meeting someone you love for the first time. This creativity circle will focus on writing down your stories in short 5-10 minute sessions and then sharing what you write. This practice is not about proving(or not) that you are the next Ernest Hemingway somehow misguided into being a ski bum here in Big Sky, MT. This practice is about revealing yourself to yourself and telling your stories to a community of people who are doing the same. It may feel scary to think about reading aloud your writing, but storytelling is something humans have done for thousands of years and, well, it feels good to express this part of ourselves. Don’t take yourself so seriously.

Liz McRae took a couple of amazing writing classes with a Bozeman-based writer, Molly May (you should too! www.mollycaromay.com), sold her business and is now interested in creating an outlet for storytelling here in Big Sky. Bring a journal you love and a pen that writes well and tell your stories. Dare to come!

Ancient Wisdom for Everyday Wellness
with Callie Stolz
January 25th, 6:30 to 7:30pm

Do you feel like you need to make a shift? To change something in your daily routine in order to feel more balanced and or just feel better in your body? Alberto Villoldo, Ph.D., medical anthropologist and teacher of the healing practices of shamanism, says, “One spirit medicine opens the doors to the invisible matrix of wisdom where everything is intertwined, where every thought we have impacts every cell in our body and every molecule in the cosmos.” Dr. Marc Halpern, Ayurvedic teacher and practitioner, says, ” Where there is harmony there is health and where there is disharmony there is dis-ease. Ayurveda is the science of understanding how to bring one back to their individual state of harmony or balance.” Callie has seen a lot of overlap in these two different ancient healing modalities and is excited to share with you some of the gems she has stepped away with in her studies with both of these amazing teachers. Although the middle of the winter is sometimes not the best time to embark on a full cleanse or a detox. There are ways in which we can shift what we are eating and when we are eating it to shift our metabolism, as well as some specific foods and supplements to help to refresh us and help us simply feel better in our bodies.

All Awareness Wednesdays, are free and open to the public. Come, broaden your awareness!

Let Go to Let Live
with Becky Eschenroeder
Saturday, December 3rd

Finding your “edge” in yoga requires listening to not only your body, but also to your heart and your mind; trusting that inner guide that comes from within. Mindfully toeing the lines of our “limits” is what makes us stronger. Learn how to invite challenges into your life and turn them into opportunities though the use of your own instincts, knowledge, and ability to trust and surrender.

Join Becky on a journey of discovering your “inner guide” that leads you to that internal place of purity and trust that is always there no matter what life may look like on the “outside.” We will touch on the importance of needing to let go in order for transformation to occur and on finding courage to do so. It takes strength to let go and trust, and we will work towards that as we explore the meaning behind the Niyama, Ishvara Pranidhana.

This journey inward will include a combination of an intense physical practice with thought provoking information, journaling, discussion, meditation, and long savasana that will allow the students to realize and connect with the importance of working as hard as they can but knowing when it is okay to stop, let go, and know it is okay to surrender (that it is even necessary sometimes).

Please dress comfortably and bring a mat, a journal and a pen. It’s also best to avoid eating a heavy meal 60 minutes prior to this workshop

Most teachers know the asana and the message behind yoga. Becky Eschenroeder lives it. When you practice with Becky, you get more than a teacher on the mat; you gain guidance for your daily life. Becky’s credentials, ERYT200/RYT500/RCYT, highlight her teaching capabilities. Beloved by her hometown in Richmond, VA, Becky has transformed countless lives through her teaching. Expanding beyond the river-city streets, she is on the road to share her gift with you and your community. Take advantage of this unique chance to practice with Becky Eschenroeder and observe how her presence continues to impact your life even when her mat is gone.

Awareness Wednesday
Reclaim Your Health: The Power of the Mind to Heal the Body
with Angela Marie Patnode
October 19th from 7pm to 8:15pm

Angela Marie Patnode, Transformational Coach and Spiritual Teacher, will share how she recovered from a 2 year undiagnosed virus, EMF (electromagnetic) sensitivity, and chronic hip and back pain. She followed the route of western medicine and meditation, but found out there’s a very specific reason these things happened and that it’s possible to go to the root of what’s creating the symptoms instead of chasing the symptoms.

What Angela learned can heal such conditions as Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Chronic Pain, Chemical, Food and Mold Sensitivities, Lyme Disease, Electric Hypersensitivity Syndrome, Anxiety, PTSD, Inflammatory Conditions and more.

The chemicals you can create just by what you think, feel and how you behave, are 100 times stronger than any pharmaceutical you can take. Everything you need to heal is already in your body!

As always awareness Wednesdays and free and open to the public, please come, expand your awareness!

Master Class & Workshop with Becky Eschenroeder

Strength to Surrender with Becky Eschenroeder
Friday, September 23rd 6:00-7:30pm

Finding your “edge” in yoga requires listening to not only your body, but also to your heart and your mind; trusting that inner guide that comes from within. Mindfully toeing the lines of our “limits” is what makes us stronger. Learn how to invite challenges into your life and turn them into opportunities though the use of your own instincts, knowledge, and ability to trust and surrender.
Join Becky and Margo on a journey of discovering your “inner guide” that leads you to that internal place of purity and trust that is always there no matter what life may look like on the “outside.” We will touch on the importance of needing to let go in order for transformation to occur and on finding courage to do so. It takes strength to let go and trust, and we will work towards that as we explore the meaning behind the Niyama, Ishvara Pranidhana.
This journey inward will include a combination of an intense physical practice with thought provoking information, meditation, and long savasana that will allow the students to realize and connect with the importance of working as hard as they can but knowing when it is okay to stop, let go, and know it is okay to surrender (that it is even necessary sometimes).
Please dress comfortably and bring a mat, a journal and a pen. It’s also best to avoid eating a heavy meal 60 minutes prior to this workshop.
Investment: Early Bird~ $20 after 9/16~ $25

Wildly Free to Be with Becky Eschenroeder
Sunday, September 25th 2:00-5:00pm

As we navigate into the 3rd and 4th Chakra (power center and heart), we will incorporate the idea of trusting and letting go (Ishvara Pranidhana). This exploration includes discussion, journaling, asana practice and an in depth look into the core of your being…working from the inside out.
Prepare to embark on this journey as you join Becky for three hours of exploring the philosophy behind Manipura, the third of the five Chakras; Anahata, the fourth of the five Chakras; and Ishvarah Pranidhana, the fifth of the five Niyamas. Navigate towards that sense of freedom that exists within (no matter what life may have to offer) as we partake in journaling and discussion and flow though a Vinyasa practice and some visualization as well.
Please dress comfortably and bring a mat, a journal and a pen. It’s also best to avoid eating a heavy meal 60 minutes prior to this workshop.
Investment: Early Bird~ $45 after 9/16~ $55

Foundations of Mind-Body Nutrition with Heather McDonnell
March 16th 7-8:00pm

“What we eat is only half of the story of good nutrition. The other half is who we are as eaters.” – Marc David, Founder of the Institute for the Psychology of Eating

Who are YOU as an eater? Do you fear food? Think dietary fat will make you fat? Do you eat in a hurry, while stressed out, distracted, or with erratic timing? Did you know that the same switch in the brain that turns on the stress response – the sympathetic nervous system – turns off digestion, assimilation and slows down thermic efficiency? The same switch in the brain that turns on the relaxation response – the parasympathetic nervous system – turns on full healthy digestive and calorie burning power. You could eat the healthiest food in the universe, but if it’s eaten in any degree of stress, you have literally decreased the nutritional value of your meal. I n this talk, I will introduce to you the fundamentals of Mind Body Nutrition. Mind Body Nutrition reveals how stress physiology, the relaxation response, breathing, awareness, pleasure, meal timing and much more profoundly influence digestion and calorie burning. Le arn how to slow down, optimize meal timing, cultivate awareness in your eating experience, leave the table feeling satisfied and nourished, and in turn allow your body to calorie burn, digest and assimilate nutrients optimally.
As always, Awareness Wednesdays are free and open to anyone, so come on in and expand your awareness!

February 2016 Special Events

Deepak Chopra’s Course on Chakras Saturday, February 6th 11-1pm

unnamed

Consciousness transforms into matter in our bodies located at our 7 chakras. Chakras are part of the subtle body and control the transformation of subtle energies from higher dimensions into physical energy. There are many Chakras, located at the junction points of the energy channels (nadis) of the subtle body. The 7 Chakras located along the spine are considered to be the most important. Chakra means “wheel”, they constantly spin the world into existence. When the Chakras are blocked or clouded, transformation is blocked, creating disharmony and suffering in our life. When the Chakras are clear and “awakened” the mind and body become balanced and we gain full access to higher realms of existence.

During this class, we will explore:

– What causes blocks in each Chakra?
– How to open/enliven each Chakra to live a happier, more balanced life
– Exercises to open each Chakra through movement and sound toning
– Soothing Guided Visualization meditation

Investment $40

October 2015 Special Events

Fall Community Cleanse

October 7th-20th

It’s that time of year again. The seasons are starting to change and it’s almost time to assist our bodies in making those changes and setting ourselves up for a healthy winter season. In the summer heat builds up in the tissues of our body and begins to dry things out. As we move into cooler temperatures our body tends to produce excess mucous in order fight against that dryness. The excess mucous becomes a breeding ground for bacteria and viruses to take over. When we take the time to do a cleanse it allows ourselves the opportunity to flush the excess heat, mucous, and toxins that have built up in our bodies. The community cleanse utilizes the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda in order to help detoxify the body and reboot the digestive system, and going through the process with a community of others makes it all that much easier to get through it successfully. It is not a time of starvation or deprivation, we eat 3 (or 4) meals each day and take specific herbs to assist the process of releasing toxins. It is a systematic 2 week process that starts with preparing your body to go through the cleansing process (a 4 day pre-cleanse), doing the main cleanse (7 days), and then restoring your body to get back to eating your regular diet (a 3 day post cleanse). It is designed to be a 2 week cleanse, but it can be customized to the length of time that you are able to commit to.
Callie Stolz, C.A.S., P.K.S., Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist and Pancha Karma (cleansing) Specialist, will be leading this two week community cleanse. There will also be yoga detox classes offered in combination with the cleanse in order to assist in the process.
What it includes: digestive herbs (specific to your needs), 4 cleansing and rejuvenativing herbal formulas, 7 days worth of the Ayurvedic cleansing food, other recipes, a booklet of information on the step by step process, 4 optional meetings (including the initial talk) and daily email support through the process.
Callie will be explaining more about the cleanse and how we work with some of the basic principles of Ayurveda during the Awareness Wednesday seminar on September 16th at 7:30. If you are interested in doing the cleanse (and you have not done it before), it is important to come this seminar to learn more about it and these Ayurvedic principles, and to see if it would be a good fit for you. October 2014 Special Events

Fall Community Cleanse
October 8th-21st
(optional October 1st start with early registration)

We will meet the Wednesday night before the cleanse begins (10/01) to distribute all the items needed for the cleanse and have a meeting about the details (if this time doesn’t work for you or if you would like to start on the 1st, other arrangements can be made).
Callie will be explaining more about the cleanse and how we work with some of the basic principles of Ayurveda during the Awareness Wednesday seminar on September 24th at 7:00. If you are interested in doing the cleanse (and you have not done it before), it is important to come this seminar to learn more about it and these Ayurvedic principles, and to see if it would be a good fit for you. To register click here https://clients.mindbodyonline.com/classic/admhome?studioid=30723 or call us. If you have any questions please email Callie at callie@santoshabigsky.com.

Come Celebrate the Summer Solstice!

108 Sun Salutations

Saturday June, 21st beginning at 11:00am
All proceeds (donations) will go towards Women In Action

Surya Namaskar A includes a comprehensive yoga practice using 9 movements linked to the breath (vinyasas): grounding the feet, forward bend, lengthening the spine, strengthening the upper body, back bend, stretching the hamstrings, being still, expanding the lungs and more. Every movement has a breath associated with it, an inhale when going up, and exhale when going down or constricting the lungs, breathing at least 1,080 breaths by the time you’re done.

108 is an auspicious number in eastern history, math and science. Whether this number has any significance to you, or you just want a new mental and physical challenge, come and join us for a collective celebration of summer, yoga and our community. You will leave feeling strong, confident and liberated with a fresh summer glow. The event is free and open to everyone, with the option of a donation towards the Women in Action Scholarship Angel Fund. Connect with us Saturday, June 21 starting at 11am.

Shedding Light on our Subtle Anatomy with the Power of Breath

With Shawn Robertson

March 26th 7:30-8:30pm

Come join Shawn Robertson for an introductory class on the deeper aspects of our unique human ability to observe, contemplate and make choices based on a complex interpretation of energetic influences all around and within us. Our five physical senses through which we perceive our experiences are tuned by evolution to pick up stimuli from the outside and then bring it inside for interpretation. But what about the world WITHIN us? Why do so many of us interpret the world in so many different ways? Is there something happening internally that affects how accurately we ‘see’ things externally? Thousands of years ago several wise men and women felt drawn to deeply explore themselves and their experiences to answer to these questions. We’ll spend the evening diving in to what they learned and how to use that knowledge in our own lives. As well as introducing some of the techniques they used to fine tune our ability to interpret the world around us by bringing awareness to what’s happening inside us. This class will focus on introducing fundamental subtle anatomy components to heighten your understanding of how energy moves in the body. We will be playing with several ancient techniques such as pranayama, (breath control and expansion), some gentle yoga postures, and simple meditation to experience first hand how your body really works, from within.

Fall Community Cleanse
October 2nd-15th

Callie Stolz, C.A.S., P.K.S., Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist and Pancha Karma (cleansing) Specialist, will be leading this two week community cleanse. There will also be yoga detox classes offered in combination with the cleanse in order to assist in the process.
What it includes: digestive herbs (specific to your needs), 4 cleansing and rejuvenativing herbal formulas, 7 days worth of the Ayurvedic cleansing food, other recipes, a booklet of information on the step by step process, 3 meetings and daily email support through the process. We will meet the Sunday night before the cleanse begins (9/29) to distribute all the items needed for the cleanse and have a meeting about the details (if this time doesn’t work for you other arrangements can be made). It is designed to be a 2 week cleanse, but it can be customized to the length of time that you are able to commit to.
Callie will be explaining more about the cleanse and how we work with some of the basic principles of Ayurveda during the Awareness Wednesday seminar on September 25th at 7:30. If you are interested in doing the cleanse it is important to come this seminar to learn more about it and these Ayurvedic principles, and to see if it would be a good fit for you. If you have any questions please email Callie at callie@santoshabigsky.com. To register click here https://clients.mindbodyonline.com/ASP/adm/home.asp?studioid=30723.

July Workshops and Special Events

Classical Qigong – 8 Brocades and Sacred Sounds

with Dr. Ron Davis

July 13th, 11:00-1:00

Early bird price: $35 After July 6th: $45

Qigong is all about integrating your body, breath and mind to create a better state of well being. The 8 Brocade exercises will gently lengthen muscles, open joints, and deepen the breath. The powerful Sacred Sounds use the voice and mental intention to help you connect with heaven, humanity and earth. These ancient exercises will create inner strength and outer grace.

Bodhidharma, the first ancestor of Buddhism in China, created the 8 Brocades when he lived at Shaolin temple. Before his arrival, the monks were in poor physical condition because they spent so much time in sitting meditation. The 8 Brocades combined the monks’ affinity for inward awareness with physical movements and deliberate breathing patterns. This new health care system soon evolved into the famous martial arts training of the Shaolin monks. This class will teach you the primary set of this highly revered qigong practice.

Every culture understands the power of the human voice. Songs, chants, and prayers are used to move a person out of themselves and into a greater community of humanity and the divine power of nature. The Sacred Sounds is a qigong practice that exemplifies the integration of body, breath and mind. In this exercise, the emphasis is on vocalizing the sounds of OM, AH and HUN. At the same time, the hands are traveling through the three major energy centers of the body. This powerful practice nourishes all aspects of humanity: self, other, and divine.

Classical Qigong, a 12-15 minute practice, is a perfect way to start your day, or to bring it to a close. This practice of gentle movements is easy to learn and to do. This workshop is open to all levels, no experience necessary. Whenever you do these venerable exercises you will become, as the texts say, “still as a mountain, flowing like a great river”. To register online go to https://clients.mindbodyonline.com/ASP/adm/home.asp?studioid=30723 or call Santosha Wellness Center at 406-993-2510.

Creative Writing Forum~ March 27th
7:30pm

It was so much fun the first couple times we are going to do it again! Space is limited so please call or go to our class schedule to register in advance.
